Reporting to the President of Iowa State University and serving as a member of the President’s Cabinet, the Assistant Vice President and Director of Federal Relations is the lead representative of ISU in the nation’s Capitol. The Office of Federal Relations is charged with coordinating and enhancing the university’s engagement with members of Congress and federal funding agencies. Federal Relations staff assist faculty and campus leaders in identifying opportunities and in securing federal research support; act as liaisons between the university and elected officials; and strengthen ISU’s visibility and contributions to national policy through frequent interaction with federal agency personnel, colleagues from peer institutions, and a variety of ad hoc coalitions and consortia. Office staff also serve as key advisors and as conduits of information to members of the ISU leadership team who have a vested interest in the effectiveness of the university’s federal relations program.
